CBD Against Covid: Can CBD Help With Pandemic

Did you know that CBD can support the pandemic? The world is facing a health crisis where millions of people die from antibiotic-resistant bacteria. There are several alternatives for treatment, and many of them have severe side effects. CBD (cannabidiol) is a natural substance found in cannabis plants that has shown potential as an anti-bacterial agent against MRSA, E Coli, Salmonella typhimurium, and other drug-resistant pathogens. This blog post covers the relationship between CBD and Covid and how CBD may offer an alternative way to treat covid infection by preventing bacterial growth in the first place.

Can CBD help with Covid?

With its remarkable potential, you may be questioning if cannabis can help fight the disease currently affecting the whole world – COVID-19. This infectious respiratory virus has left millions of people dead and economies on the edge of collapse. However, could medical marijuana and covid be any related, and could CBD offer any prevention or treatment for this deadly virus?

The answer is yes!

Cytokine storm

Some people that were affected by Covid-19 tend to have a high concentration of cytokines. These cytokines are a class of proteins, and the cytokines involved in a cytokine storm lead to a surge in inflammation.

Some COVID-19 patients experience lung fibrosis, a critical and untreatable condition that leaves lung tissue scarred and makes it harder for them to breathe. If a thing could stop the cytokine storm, it would overcome inflammation, prevent lung fibrosis, and put COVID-19 patients in relief.

Researchers in Colombia have uncovered a potentially effective way to combat the COVID-19 cytokine storm. This study found that cannabis type C.Sativa decreased inflammation and fibrosis by reducing TNFa and IL-6 levels - two of the main targets when trying to block these storms and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).

Other COVID-19 symptoms that CBD treats

CBD and Pain

CBD and Pain

Having a sore throat, body aches, and headaches are common symptoms of COVID-19. Cannabis has shown considerable potential as an analgesic due to its ability to boost serotonin levels which causes pain relief for many patients.

Anxiety

Patients who find out they have COVID-19 are often surprised and anxious. You may be isolated from friends, family, or even pets because of the illness's highly infectious nature; this can take a toll on your mental health as well.

Cannabis has shown to be an effective treatment for anxiety. CBD is one of these compounds that can help decrease the symptoms of stress and anxiety by boosting serotonin activity and reducing cortisol levels.

Muscle Spasms

Muscle spasms are a common symptom of COVID-19. For some people with the virus, these muscle spasms have been known to overwhelm them and undermine their ability to perform day-to-day tasks.

The length and severity of spasms can depend on your age. Most people under 16 moderate experience pain lasting for four days; older people usually suffer up to nine days. Sadly, there has been an uptick in cases where people who suffer from post-COVID syndrome state that their symptoms last much longer than usual.

A study done by The British Medical Journal in 2012 showed that adults who suffered from muscle spasms, stiffness, and other painful symptoms felt relief after using cannabis extracts daily. Another study done in 2019 claims that adults with MS felt much better after smoking cannabis.

On the final note

COVID-19 is a virus that has become prevalent in the last couple of years and can cause some uncomfortable symptoms for those it infects. Fortunately, there are treatments available to help with these symptoms; however, they may not always be practical or readily accessible to everyone. Cannabis and Covid can be ‘friends’’ as CBD (Cannabidiol) offers an alternative treatment option that seems promising due to its ability to reduce stress levels and boost serotonin which causes pain relief.

Note: Cannabis has been shown to help with the symptoms of COVID-19, but it is not a cure. Always discuss your symptoms with your doctor before purchasing and using CBD.
